First visits with Santa

The library had a really nice Christmas "party" of sorts on Saturday. They had a table set up with goodies, juice boxes, and coffee, and 3 tables set up for crafts. They had a bell choir playing, which was really pretty. And of course they had Santa.

Emily had been talking for over a week about how she was going to see Santa, sit on his lap, and tell him what she wanted for Christmas. But once we got there, she wouldn’t get out of Jim’s arms. She eventually warmed up pretty quickly once Santa came around to the craft tables. She told him what she wanted for Christmas, but she didn’t want to sit on his lap. We didn't push it, but told her that if she changed her mind, she could go sit with him whenever she was ready. At one point she even ran over and gave him a cookie, which was really cute.

We had pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that Em wasn't going to sit with him, which was fine. Hell, I was surprised she even talked to him! But then when we were getting ready to leave she all of a sudden said, “I want to go see Santa.” So she went right on over and got into his lap. She was really shy, but she did it all on her own, and you could tell it was something she was working up the courage to do. She was really proud of herself.

She talked the rest of the day about how Santa loves her and is her buddy. :)

Alex was very quiet when he sat with Santa, but you could tell he was interested in him. He just looked all around, and kept glancing up at Santa's beard. Then after he peered up at Santa long enough, he looked over at me and started to pucker up and tears started to well in his eyes. He had everyone there “aww”-ing over him.

It ended up being a nice time, and we got both kids' first pictures with Santa.
